Tiptoe through the vineyards with The Wine Ladies
Southbrook Vineyards, an organic winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, hosted Vino and Vinyasa with Toronto’s The Wine Ladies on July 7th. I joined a group of thirsty yogis for an afternoon of wine tasting, Vinyasa poses, and fresh Italian cuisine (in that order) prepared by Chef Claudio Giganti.
Striking a sun salutation in the open air is the way the ancient Hindus intended yoga to be practiced. Hindus revere the sun as the “eye of the world” and honor the sun through a series of eight basic postures known as sun salutations. There’s no soundtrack here, just the sounds of nature, birds tweeting, the gentle breeze sweeping through the trees and your toes, and the invigorating smell of fresh country air. Hands down, practicing yoga in the vineyard is truly an enlightening and grounding experience. And if the yogic breathing doesn’t relax you, the chardonnay certainly will.
Entrepreneur sisters, Georgia and Susanne are The Wine Ladies. Mixing Susanne’s marketing knowhow with Georgia’s expertise in the wine consignment industry, the effervescent duo has sipped their way to building a successful brand over the past 10 years. They keep busy with celebrity MC appearances, writing columns, and as Internet TV hosts. A new lifestyle Internet TV program is set to debut in the fall called “The Wine Ladies: One Sip at a Time”.
The Wine Ladies are always busy hosting social events such as grape stomping, annual icewine tours during the Niagara Icewine Festival in January, and a 10-day all-inclusive Italian adventure in Abruzzo, Italy September 19-29.
Southbrook is located 90 minutes southwest of Toronto, Ontario.
